Superfood For Your Skin

August 1, 2017

Fresh fruit is a great additive to soap as it adds a ton of beneficial vitamins, antioxidants and moisturizers. It also adds a touch of the exotic, and can add to the complexity of the fragrance of the soap.

Blueberry Bliss

Blueberries are a “super food” power-packed with the most antioxidants than any other fruit. Anthocyanin gives these little berries their blue color and is a powerful antioxidant that is great for the skin. Bright colors mean more phytonutrients. phytonutrients are compounds found in plants that offer protective properties. They also contain vitamins A, B complex, C and E, potassium, zinc, copper, iron and magnesium. Natural antioxidants, natural vitamins A, E & C and beta-carotene are all present in copious amounts. But what is even more amazing... the benefits remain in the soap.

Great for the Skin

Blueberries smooth the skin, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, eliminate scars, increase elasticity, fight against blemishes and acne, reduce the appearance of spider veins, balance levels of oil in the skin, and help even out skin tone.

Research in 2009 by the University of Berkeley found no substantial loss of antioxidants even after baking, simmering or microwaving! In cold-process handcrafted soap, the process of saponification (converting fat to soap) generates temperatures rising to 200*F. Yet, the blueberry antioxidants are still intact in the final bars. This is what makes the blueberry even more incredible!

The next time you pick up blueberries at the market, set a few aside for the following skin recipes.
